Chapter 6 Response:
Would you rather teach in a classroom that had more or less digital technologies? Why?
I am torn between the sides on the question. On one hand, the technologies discussed in chapter 6 such as scanners, cameras, tablets, touch screens, interactive whiteboards, and so on, could potentially open up another whole world to children. They would have access to new learning styles, and previously inaccessible information. Also, since technology is such a big part of our culture, and it continues to grow, it is important that children are introduced to it at an early age. At the same time, it could be argued that too much technology could potentially discourage or stunt creativity. I believe that with both sides presented, it is important that there be a balance of the two in order for children's learning to be well rounded.
Chapter 11 Response:
For both audio and visual technologies, identify one traditional and one emerging technology from the book, and explain how you could potentially use all four devices in the classroom.
Audio:
Internet Radio-
This could be considered an emerging technology. It can be used to listen to NPR or experts speak on specific topics. My environmental studies class last semester really utilized this technology.
Earphones-
These can be considered a traditional technology. They can allow students to work personally without disturbing others or being disturbed by others. (These also could be used when listening to internet radio.)
Visual:
Overhead Projectors-
These can be considered a traditional form or technology. Teachers may use these to show their own transparencies to the whole class. They can also mark on them, and they can still be erased. In elementary school my teachers used these a lot when correcting grammar on sentence examples.
Document Camera-
This is an emerging form of technology. These are great for instructions for the class so the teacher does not have to walk around and personally show each student. As a more specific example, my high school anatomy teacher would dissect animals or organs on hers because it was much easier to be able to look up at her example and then back at yours instead of having her come around to individuals and show them.
